Dragons' Den meets The Apprentice in this resource which gets students to research an industrial revolution innovator in-depth, and then compete to have their candidate chosen by a 19th-century Alan Sugar! The individuals included are Richard Arkwright, George Stephenson, Isambard Kingdom Brunel and Abraham Darby. Full teaching notes and a worksheet are both included for easy lesson delivery!

Yes it's a great resource but yet again it only includes men. The whole resource revolves around the fact that only men can be successful 'businessmen'. I've adapted the lesson for my students to include women. Do we really want our children to grow up thinking that only men can be involved in inventions and business?

Thank you for your comment, Jessica. While, due to the limited opportunities available to women at the time, most innovators in the Industrial Revolution probably were men, there undoubtedly are women whose contributions have been overlooked by history until very recently. Would you like to share your adapted version of the resource?
