#Teachit20

To celebrate our 20th birthday, we have put together a year’s worth of Teachit treats to thank our members and subscribers.
Every month we will announce a new Teachit treat … so watch this space!

A few words from Victoria Humphries, Head of Teachit

"My 12 years at Teachit have been some of the happiest of my life. I truly value the fact that I am working for a company with a great purpose that really puts teachers at the heart of every decision. The staff are all passionate about helping teachers and many of our staff were, or still are, practising teachers. Many moons ago, when I was a primary school teacher we thought that we were busy with all of our planning and marking! I know now that this was nothing compared to what our teachers are experiencing today. Anything we can do to help them reclaim a few hours of their lives is a job well done.

Teachit would be nothing without all of our amazing contributors, so a big thank you to each and every one of you for providing the thousands of pages of content that sits on our sites. Ever since the early days, when Siobhain first gathered up colleagues’ resources and uploaded them to the (still relatively new) worldwide web, our teacher contributors have always been the backbone of our site.

Thank you also to the millions of teachers who have used us over the years – we love chatting to you over the phone or building up relationships via email. We treasure those moments when you let us know how one of our resources has helped you out.

I’d also like to acknowledge our partners and supporters – both internal and external – all of you have helped us to get where we are today. Thank you for the relationships and conversations. Some of you – you know who you are! – have become true friends.

The final thank you has to go to Team Teachit – where would we all be without discussions around comma splicing, Pi Day, high and low pressure systems, or the latest TV mini-series?! I have never worked somewhere with quite so many homemade cakes and biscuits, so much laughter or so much passion and dedication.

I hope you enjoy the treats that are on offer during the coming months. Here’s to another 20 years of Teachit!"

Testimonials

We have worked with some amazing people over the years, from colleagues, customers, contributors and partners.

Here’s what they have to say about Teachit …

"Teachit is like having an ever present, experienced, and amazing colleague on hand at all times. You can turn to it for inspiration, to save time, and in times of sheer panic and it always delivers."

Sarah Ashton,
English teacher

"I have always had an excellent working relationship with Teachit who have become integral to our advertising campaigns when recruiting examiners for our General qualifications. We have always received an exemplary professional service from Teachit and look forward to working with them more in the future."

Matthew O’Conner,
Pearson Recruitment

"I have worked with Teachit for several years to promote children’s books and educational resources to schools. They are a great partner to work with as not only are they always helpful and supportive but they also have an engaged audience who clearly value and enjoy Teachit’s content."

Alexandra Taylor,
Rising Stars

"As an aspiring student teacher, I first signed up to Teachit a few months ago as a way to get a better insight into teaching methodology. I was able to make use of the excellent resources on the site to help me to do my first ever “mini teach” as part of my PGCE interview. When I was asked to put together a 30-minute class for 28 children as part of the interview process I was terrified! However, I was able to use the sites resources to create a fun, engaging lesson that was a genuine success. Through using the site I was able to get to the support and confidence I needed to deliver something the kids were able to learn from and enjoy, despite never having taught a class before in my life. I am now starting my PGCE this September and fully expect to make further use of Teachit throughout my journey into teaching. I would like to send a massive thank you to all the guys at Teachit – keep up the good work!!"

Mark,
Soon to be student teacher

"Great purpose, product and people."

Andy Riddle,
Former MD

"Most of all, I find it provides inspiration for new ways of teaching. It's so easy to fall back on the methods we like the most, the fail-safe options, but Teachit reminds me that it's always worth trying something new in the classroom."

Natalie Kinrade,
Teachit English contributor

"Writing for Teachit has been a pleasure. It has given me the opportunity to be as creative (and slightly crazy from time to time) as I wanted to be – while at the same time producing what I hope are really useful resources. Congratulations Teachit!"

Trevor Millum,
Teachit English contributor

"Teachit is a great community of like-minded teachers. It also gives me a place to share the resource I’ve worked so hard to create."

Kate Matthews,
Teachit Primary contributor

"Teachit, both for me and my department, acts as an online form of CPD. I mean that in the sense that we often share, adapt and unpick resources that this unseen, anonymous community of other brilliant teachers has created."

Emma Litterick,
Teachit English contributor

"Teachit is a fantastic resource for English teachers. As a long-standing contributor, I feel that Teachit should be celebrated for its longevity as well as its willingness to move with the times."

Helen Millman-Jones,
Teachit English contributor

"Working for Teachit gives me a sense of achievement. My colleagues – who I consider good friends – are great to work with and it is always nice knowing that we provide a great service to the end users."

Jordan Mcleod,
Teachit Email and Website Campaign Developer

"Teachit is a really special place to work, full of incredibly supportive and warm-hearted people. The site has meant a lot to me since my teaching days, and it is an honour to support teachers whose shoes I was once in!"

Helen Stacey,

"Teachit as a company has changed almost beyond recognition. But what hasn't changed is the fact that it exists for teachers and that it endorses them and reminds everybody, we hope, that teachers know better than anybody else, how to teach their subject well."

Lucy Hewitt,
Teachit Publishing Manager

"Knowing you make a difference to a teacher's day is a great feeling. And working with such great people is the icing on the cake!"

Jo Barwell,
Teachit Senior Editor

"Working at Teaching was a dream job and such a change after 30 years of teaching. People were polite and said ‘please’ and ‘thank you.’ I felt I was not only part of a family of employees, where everyone helped each other but also a member of a massive family of happy contributors all helping teachers around the world."

Chris Smart,

Debbie Rattier,

Simon Stone,
Teachit Primary contributor

"Teachit is a trusted old friend and a treasure chest of ideas and resources. In an education world of increasing standardisation, Teachit is the back door into an enchanted garden of inspiration and experiment."

Richard Durant,

"Teachit has been empowering for teachers in many ways. When I started teaching, Teachit was a quick way of finding a wide variety of high quality resources.  Even better, as I became a contributor myself, I gained confidence in my ability to create resources.  Taking that first step with Teachit has led to a second career writing English and Drama educational books.  Whenever people ask how I began as an author, I always say, 'It started with Teachit.’"

Annie Fox,
Teachit English contributor

"I am proud to work for Teachit. Knowing I am doing something to help towards supporting our busy teachers to lighten their workload really does make my job seem worthwhile."

Donna Symonds,
Teachit Marketing Manager

"Where else will you find such a wealth of top-notch resources written by a vast community of teacher-contributors and finessed by an expert team of teacher-editors to ensure their educational efficacy?"

George Rodd,

"Everyone at Teachit genuinely wants to help make the lives of busy, stressed-out teachers just that little bit easier. That's one of the reasons why I love working here!"

Sheena Newland,

Kate Lee,

"A simple idea brought to life by a cracking community of creative and committed staff, editors and contributors. I'm proud that for 14 years I was involved in something that valued, supported and connected teachers across the UK beyond, and delighted that it remains by and for teachers 20 years after its humble beginnings in our spare room."
